New book on BVD control programmes published by the member of SOUND control Stefan Vilcek

The MC member Dr Štefan Vilček representative from Slovakia, with co-authors Jurij Pistl and Jana Mojžišova, published a book titled »Bovine Viral Diarrhoea – control programmes, principles and practical experiences«. The aim of the book (written in the Slovak language) is closely related to the aim of our COST action, namely to improve control of the cattle disease that is not regulated on the EU level.

The book describes the principles of BVD control programmes in Europe. Eradication programmes in Sweden, Lower Austria, Switzerland and Germany with different strategies and achieved results are presented as well as personal experiences, collected through personal interviews, of the main specialists involved in these programmes. Additionally, control programmes in other European countries are summarised. The final chapter gives the global overview of BVD control programmes and the book ends with the basic principles for the introduction of BVD control programme in Slovakia.
